PRINCIPLES OF DOG TRAINING
TIMING | CONSISTENCY | MOTIVATION
Having these three principles present in your training creates clear communication between you and your dog. By teaching a series of basic commands during your dog's stay with us, we create structure and balance within your dog's life.
TIMING
Dogs only have a 1.3 second cause to effect ratio. So, for them to correlate their actions, good or bad, with a positive or negative consequence, they must be given within 1.3 seconds of the action taking place.
CONSISTENCY
This is the most important of the three principles! Make sure you are always being consistent with the expectations for your dog. If you are inconsistent, your dog will test the rules more often to figure out what they can and cannot get away with.
MOTIVATION
Everything your dog does is based on motivation. For example, they are hungry (motivator) so they eat (action). You can utilize positive motivation (treats, toys, petting) to get your dog to continue a behavior and utilize negative motivation to decrease the likelihood of bad behavior.
OBEDIENCE SKILLS
Through learning a series of basic obedience commands during your dog's training program, you can utilize and apply the basic obedience to several aspects of your dog's life to create structure and boundaries.
